Short-Term Running Goals:

I plan to run a 5k sub-18 by the end of next XC season, or better.

I also want to improve my mile time by 20 seconds or more. 

Long-Term Running Goals:

I would like to run a half marathon, a full marathon, and maybe an ultra marathon sometime in my life.

Personal:

I am on the Pine View High School Cross Country Team.  I am in the Class of 2014, so I'm a senior this school year.  I joined XC my junior year.  Cameron Brown is my younger brother, and faster than I am.

We were up at the trail behind the old airport today.  I kept up great with the rest of the team for the first 3 miles, then proceeded to drop away and slow down.  I ended between a quarter and half mile behind them, I think, but I can't judge distance that well.

I keep slowing my pace on these 8 mile runs.  I was really breathless this run.  I just didn't have the energy for it.

Old man hills.  we ran two 800's up this hill.  I felt okay going at the pace I was at on the first one, but tried speeding up on the second one anyways.  I fell back a little on the way back to the high school, but sped up to catch some friends ahead of me.

I felt really good during the warm up and the 5k.  It all went really smoothly for me, and my time was good, a PR, at 19:38.  Cam and Mike had their watches tracking the distance and came up a little shorter than 3.1, so I don't know if it was actually a 5k.

We ran 5 miles on that trail at the top of Green Springs drive, but I couldn't catch my breathe on that steep uphill run.  I've decided I need to put positive thoughts in my head while I run, just like one of those articles that Coach Roberts put on the race evaluation papers he handed out during the XC season.

I felt good for the first couple miles of our run, but I think I'm starting to get shin splints, so I wasn't able to run my fastest on that pace in the middle.  Oh, and from yesterday's steep hill run, I noticed a sharp pain in my left thigh during warm-up core stuff.

This run was good.  I wasn't able to keep up for the run to the old man hills, but I caught the group right before they reached the spot.  I found it hard to move my weight onto my right leg every time we were about to start a two hundred or four hundred, but ran my hardest.  I felt great after the workout on our run back to the school.  I fell back a little but then picked up my speed as we passed Wells Fargo.

This run was good.  we had a timed trial and I ran my mile in 6:10.  This is my best mile time, but it's the time I've gotten on my last three timed miles.  my shins have been getting better since I've been treating them better and stretching more.

We ran eight, with an AT pace (for me a 7:10 mile) for 30 minutes, in the middle.  I started a little behind everyone because I had to tie my shoe, and tried to catch up.  by the time we'd run a mile I'd caught up to Taylor Boyer, Liz, and Aubrey.  I decided to stay up with them for the rest of the pace, since I couldn't push myself any faster.  My shins have been feeling a lot better this week, and especially today even with this accelerated pace and longer distance.

I was feeling good at the beginning of this run and stayed right there with the other guys, but then I started to get a stomachache and fell back to a more reasonable pace for it.  I started to bring up my speed near the end and caught up to a few of the guys.  altogether, it was a nice run and I felt good everywhere else.  After practice, I tried to roll out my left calf, but it hurt too much to dig in to a place in the middle of it.

Ran 3 for the first time in weeks while we were up in Bryce Canyon for an Aid Station in the Bryce 100.  The beginning I was feeling good, except for the altitude affecting my breathing.  When we turned around on the trail to go back to camp, I led out and was feeling great.

I felt great for the first mile and a half, but after the turn around, I could tell I got a little out of shape over the break.  Thanks to "Red Leader" for helping me push through that discomfort.

I felt great today.  Kept up with coach and the fast group without any problems.  I always like to go speed up as I reach the end, and that's what I did since I was feeling so good.  I got new shoes and I ran in them for the first time today.  Legs felt great and they gave me no problems.

Another great run for me.  I slowed down a little on the turn around, but I kept pushing myself and stayed with the group.  Afterwards I did all my stretches and everything, but my calves feel tight.

We ran a grass run today.  We haven't run grass runs since last summer, and I was glad I was able to stay up with the group for all the laps we ran around that field.

We had youth conference this weekend and so Cam and I went and ran on our own.  We ran from our house almost to Starbucks, which Cam's watch calculated was 3 miles.  My running keeps getting easier.

Ran on my own today.  I ran a pretty steady 7:30 to 8 minute pace along my same route as yesterday.  No major problems.  I've been making sure to stretch good after runs and whenever my muscles feel tight.

We ran the vVO2 Max test today.  We had a normal warm up and then a 2 mile run before we began.  I ran 1471 meters in the 6 minute run.  then we had a 1 mile cool down.

I ran the 2 parkway loops pretty well.  I was behind the group a ways because I've had a sore on my left heel that's been bothering me.  I kept going and stayed at a pretty good pace.

On this run, I ran good, but I couldn't keep up very well with the group.  The hills in Coral Canyon were a killer workout on my calves and core.  Near the end, Red Leader pushed me up to the front of that group and I led them for a while.  I pushed myself up the hills more on the way back and almost caught back up with them at the end.

Cam, Nate Jones, and I ran 3 miles in Washington Fields.  It was a great run, and I found out it's really cool (temperature-wise) running by those farms.  I felt great, nothing majorly hurting.

I felt great running in the grass at Little Valley Park, and then I tried my hardest to make it up that huge hill every time we went up it, but it got really hard on my thighs.  On the last one minute hill I decided to keep up with Matt, and just tried to keep going even though my legs were burning.  On our recovery back down the hill I realized that that last sprint burned away most of the pain I'd had before.  After that, the 30 second hills were pretty good.

AM  - My run was pretty good today.  I ran all my times pretty fast.  My calves and hips hurt because I hiked to the top of Pine Valley Mountain on Friday and Saturday.

I felt pretty good during this race, if not a little out of it at the very beginning, and was surprised by my final time, though I'm glad how fast it was. I think my final sprint is always a highlight for my races, and this was no different, with me speeding up in the last 400 and full out on the last stretch.

AM - Rainy run!  It didn't rain that much on us, but it was really humid.  I didn't feel good, so I wasn't able to keep up with the group, but I ran as strong as I could and make it to Arctic Circle and back without any problems.

AM - Arctic Circle run, and I wasn't feeling my best, so I couldn't keep up with the group.

PM - Strange stomach pains again?  Not great when you're supposed to be running a tempo, so I decided to cut it short and turn around at Hot Nails.

AM - Ran the normal 3 mile morning run.  Some cramping pain between my abdominal muscles and my ribs.  I fell back from the group but caught up right before we got back to the school.

 

PM - Had our time trial in the evening, around 6:00.  We ran a mile and a half warm-up to Harts before.  I was still having a little stomach pain, but I felt a lot better than the last few days, and ran a lot better than the last time trial.

AM - 3 miles grass run on the high school baseball field. It went pretty well.  I didn't fall too far behind and felt great afterwards.  No major pain to speak of.

 

PM - Okay, so this was a bit different than this morning.  We started our run to Sandberg's Pond, and my knee was hurting me.  I was thinking about it and I'd say it had something to do with how I was sitting at the wheel in my ceramics class, or it could have been various other reasons that wouldn't make complete sense, but might be true.

AM - ran to Arctic Circle and back. Everything seemed good on this run.

PM - ran to Starbucks, then turned around there and stopped at Arctic Circle for ice cream. Felt good for that first 2.5 miles. When I ran the rest of the way back to the high school, at first I was really felling a stomach cramp from the ice cream, but steadily sped up to a pretty fast pace.

I felt pretty good during this run. In fact, I ran the thousands on our workout 10 to 20 seconds faster than I should have. Luckily, it didn't hinder my progressive pace, because I got faster on each one.

Felt good. Cam and I turned off the road at arctic circle and went along the northeast side of Formaster Ridge where he plans to build a trail for Current Issues next year. It would be a really good trail run, and even though it looks pretty rocky, we traversed it fine. There were a few spots that could use some work, but we could run on it all right.

Cam and I met up with Preston, Abel, Byron, Matt, Dave, and a couple of guys from Desert Hills, Caden and Scott, and we ran from double churches to a random point just past Jake Taylor's house. I felt good, and kept up with everyone else to the turn around point, but after I stopped to tie my shoe, I just couldn't catch back up.

I was lazy this morning and didn't get up with Cam to go running, but I did go out running later. I ran through the high school parking lot and went up to Hart's. I hadn't gone far enough yet so I continued past Harts and ran to Burger King before I turned around. I felt pretty good on the first half of this run, but slowed down quite a bit on the way back.
